Police everywhere, security nowhere! – Abolish KbO*!
*Criminality ridden locations" are areas defined by the police, where there can be police controls without suspicion or reason,. In praxis it means criminalisation and discrimination of people.
Kottbusser Tor, Görlitzer Park but also Alexanderplatz and some other locations are classified as "criminality ridden locations" by the police. Thus in these locations, police has the right to control people and search objects one carries with them. The legal background for this is the Berlin Police Law (ASOG §§ 21, 34, 35). The police claims that in these locations there is problems because of "clan criminality" or violence because of sale or consumption of drugs.
What stands out is that, all these allegedly criminality ridden areas are places, where migrant communities, as well as drug users or people without housing meet. The idea that, these groups of people will potentially commit crimes and thus should be controlled more intensively, is criminalisation by definition. People from these backgrounds are continuously observed and are put under general suspicion. Even though most controls are happening without concrete suspicion and in most cases lead to nothing "forbidden" being found, these public harassments confirm racist and classist biases - All this in the name of a supposed security. But security for whom?!
Instead of addressing homelessness and inequality of opportunity as social consequences of the capitalist system, responsible politicians use racist criminalizing attributions and reinterpret social exclusion as security and order problems.
But these problems will certainly not be solved by repression, surveillance and displacement! Sustainable and structural change is needed. For example, through the right to housing and the right to stay - for all! Security means to be able to live a good life and to experience solidarity.
We therefore advocate the abolition of "crime-ridden places"! We demand social solutions for social problems and the reduction of police competences! The police is problem and not solution! Let's show active solidarity with those affected by harassment and controls. Where people are excluded from society, let's fight back together!
